Facilitating Practical Science Learning in the Lower Juniors Lorna Milligan Year 3 Class Teacher

 Focus was on a ‘Science Investigation’  Year 3/4 children didn’t understand the process of an investigation  A different way of thinking / teaching? The BSB Science Fair 2014

Teach the ‘Process’ of Scientific Enquiry

 Present the children with their materials  Ask a question. Extension, ask their own question!  Guide the children  Planning is far easier  Differentiation comes from outcome  Collaborative learning  Broader spectrum of learning and experiences! Become the ‘Facilitator’ rather than the ‘Teacher’

 That given the opportunity to learn independently is far more meaningful for children.  Children retain information through experience  Learning becomes personal, clearer and far more fulfilling!  The 3 main learning styles are addressed with this approach. We know…
