Notes: Part II / Arguments

Notes: Arguments Your argument has two sides: Supporting and Opposing. For Supporting Side: 4 main arguments. For Opposing Side: 3 main arguments. Each argument should have at least 15 notes. Each argument should have it’s own notes sheet. Each argument should have one double sided notes sheet completed.

How many notes total? 56 notes 7 arguments (4 supporting, 3 opposing) 15 notes per argument. 7 arguments x 15 notes per argument=105 notes Argument notes should be on their own individual notes sheets. QUESTIONS?

What are your arguments? SUPPORTING SIDE (side you are on) -Argument 1: 15 notes -Argument 2: 15 notes -Argument 3: 15 notes -Argument 4: 15 notes OPPOSING SIDE -Argument 1: 15 Notes -Argument 2: 15 Notes -Argument 3: 15 Notes

Example….. Topic/Controversy: Death Penalty Death Penalty is wrong. (SUPPORT/side you are on) -Argument 1: Societal Problems to blame (15 notes) -Argument 2: Religious Reasons (15 notes) -Argument 3: Legal Reasons/Evidence used (15 notes) -Argument 4: International Pressure (15 notes) Death Penalty is right. (OPPOSITION) -Argument 1: Victims Families (15 notes) -Argument 2: Deterrent Factor (15notes) -Argument 3: Punishment (15 notes)

Notes Format Same format as background/history notes. No more than 25% of notes should be direct quotes. (approximately 25 out of 105) Direct notes must have a sentence explanation.

First Hand Source First hand research must be completed by the deadline for notes December 17. You must conduct first hand research. Most students will interview someone connected to your project topic. Make contact with your interviewee ASAP, set up timeframe for interview Have questions ready.

First Hand Sources cont. Write down all questions and answers. Take notes of your interview on your notes sheets as if the interview was an “article”. Mark your interview just as you would an article.
