Ephraim Mukiza Functions of Management CfA Project

Major functions of management Management is the act of leading and organizing people and resources in an organization to accomplish a certain work. Performance Management – Growth Hub. (2014).

Functions of management cont. There are different functions of management as follows: Planning: This is setting tasks to be accomplished in a certain way after a specific period of time. (Performance Management, 2014). Eg. Spokes of Hope management planned to give 500bikes to students by June this year. Organizing: Putting together all the resources required to accomplish a certain work. Resources involve materials and human capital. Eg. Spokes of Hope sales manager is putting together the resources and sales people to start selling bikes in the street.

Functions of management cont. Staffing: The process of adding and evaluating the required skills of human capital in an organization. (Performance Management, 2014) Eg. Spokes of Hope staff is recruiting workers to work in international relations. Leading: The process of helping workers to know what to do in a certain situation and ensuring all necessary material for that work to be done. Eg. Marketing team leader is working on creating the schedule for the team.

Functions of management cont. Controlling: Process of monitoring or making sure that the plan is clearly implemented in a proper way. Eg. An external auditor is at the office today to make control on budget of this year.

Management styles Directing: This is when the management tells a worker what to do, how to do it and when to do it. (Lorri, 2013) Eg. I need your design seven marketing material by the end of this week. Delegating: This is when the management gives a certain worker to an individual to be accomplished in a certain period of time. It given him/her the room for choosing how to do things. (Lorri, 2013) Eg. Can you please find the way you can send the report of the last meeting. Discussing: This is when the management interacts with workers and find the best way of doing things through discussion, (Lorri, 2013) Eg. Can you all come together and discuss on how we can improve our sales this month.
