Emergency expense for Dean Construction to repair Bob Jones Park Fishing Pier Item No. 4I

Requested Action City Council approve and ratify emergency expense for Dean Construction in the amount of $153,830 to demolish and reconstruct the fishing pier at Bob Jones Park

Background Began noticing considerable deterioration in the deck structure due to a lesser quality of material chosen during original construction Determined it necessary to close the pier and immediately make repairs to protect health and safety of users

Background Obtained Quote Dean Construction for pier repairs Contractor on-site Mobilized Constructing North Park Contractor on-site and begin work Dean Construction quote to demolish and reconstruct pier -- $153,830

Dean Construction Quote for Repairs 1. Demolish decking and all framework and replace with pressure treated decking $142, Pressure wash and paint structure framework $ 5, Patch and paint concrete columns$ 1, Replace existing lights with new lights $ 5, TOTAL COST$153,830.00

Financial Consideration City Purchasing Policy and State Code allow cities to make emergency or exempted purchase without competitive bidding if prompt purchase is necessary to preserve or protect the safety or public health of local residents. City Council must ratify emergency purchase within 30 days. Funding in the amount of $153,830 for emergency expense is provided in FY2012 SPDC Operating Budget
