NRC – 1 – D3 NIRCam Instrument-test Task DescriptionVersion Vector boresight and focus Responsible Parties Principal: Christopher Willmer Deputy: Kevin Flaherty Timeline: immediate. Products to : AZ, LMATC Test Goals Determine that each module is aligned to its nominal JSWT gut ray and in focus at flight temperature. Test provides a room temperature calibration that will be used to translate these measurements into cryogenic temperatures. Liens against this test description (summary – provide details in body) 1

NRC – 1 – D3 NIRCam Instrument-test Task DescriptionVersion Vector boresight and focus Procedure Itemized list giving high-level description of configuration, data-collection, analysis steps. The following list follows the description presented in the ETU tests in file NIR_PR_0105_ Rev_- _Cold_Alignment_-_WFS_Testing.pdf available on the U of A twiki. The two following pages are copies of the procedure as described in that document. Use NSMART tool on OMA to project point sources onto FPA. The focus alignment mechanism is used to focus the FPAs, while still maintaining the pupil alignment. Align OMA with module Align OMA with FPA field points Should light be pulsed ? 2

NRC – 1 – D3 NIRCam Instrument-test Task DescriptionVersion Vector boresight and focus The following procedure is to test the NSMART LEDs; this may be required. 1.energize NSMART LED 2.scan to LED location using OMA angle adjustments 3.adjust OMA for best focus using translation 4.record field point location and corresponding Compound Motion GUI position 5.record physical position of numbered LED on Figure 1 6. repeat steps 1, 2, 4 and 5 for each LED OMA configuration: Pupil mirror : retracted Focus mirrors : retracted source : beam block pupil mask : circular iris : stopped down camera : pupil lens camera filter : 2 micron Module : B NIRCam module configuration Pupil wheel : pinholes PIL : retracted cal light source : on 3

NRC – 1 – D3 NIRCam Instrument-test Task DescriptionVersion Vector boresight and focus Align OMA to NIRCAM module a) align gut ray to pupil (outward pinholes) 1.configure IR camera to view pinholes 2.insert outward pinholes and turn on cal light sources 3.center pinhole image on camera using OMA translation 4.capture IR camera imag of pinhiles and save b) align gut ray to FPA 1.insert imagin pupil (PW1) and turn off cal light sources 2.project HONDA se light onto FPA 3.capture FPA image 4.center OMA projected light at center of SW FPA (between all 4 SCAs), adjusting OMA in angle; slight defocus may be required Save relative camera centre point as defined by outward pinholes. c) repeat steps (a) and (b) until both are aligned d) save OMA position in Compound Motion GUI, annotate on Figure 4; e) Capture FPA image and save. 4

NRC – 1 – D3 NIRCam Instrument-test Task DescriptionVersion Vector boresight and focus Test Sequence Describe in as many steps as necessary all the steps, in sequence, required to carry out the test. You may want to use an overall structure such as: Pre-requisites Configuration/setup Step1: Step 2 5

NRC – 1 – D3 NIRCam Instrument-test Task DescriptionVersion Vector boresight and focus Data Analysis Required calibration files (list them) Describe data analysis steps, including any scripts or programs to run (or descriptions of the capability needed, if those don’t exist) 6

NRC – 1 – D3 NIRCam Instrument-test Task DescriptionVersion Vector boresight and focus Test Outputs Describe the data products or other tangible results from the test, and how to document/present those 7
