Complete the Do Now about nouns on your desk. We will go over it together in five minutes.

 You are receiving guided notes.  On the first page, fill in as many terms as you can on your own.  You have 3 minutes.  GO!

 A noun is a person, place, or thing.  There are two types:  A proper noun  A common noun  A pronoun takes place of a noun.  A verb describes an action.  There are three types:  An action verb  A helping verb  A linking verb

 An adjective describes a noun.  An adverb describes how, when, or where an action is done.  A preposition shows the relationship between two words by showing the location relative to each.  A conjunction joins two words or two sentences together.  FANBOYS – For And Nor But Or Yet So  An article points out or refers to a noun.  A subject is the part of the sentence that performs an action.  A predicate is the verb or verb phrase.

 Use a comma when you list more than two things.  Example: I like to eat apples, bananas, and oranges.  Use an apostrophe to determine possession.  Example: The toy is Hannah’s.  Use quotation marks to signify dialogue.  Example: Harold shouted, “You can’t take that away from me!”  Use a period to signify the end of a complete sentence.  Example: I saw a man get hit by a car when he was playing Pokémon Go.

 A declarative sentence makes a statement and ends with a period.  Example: I am going to the store tomorrow.  An imperative sentence gives a command and ends with a period or exclamation point.  Example: You need to clean your room now! or Go to bed.  An interrogative sentence asks a question and ends with a question mark.  Example: Where is the strawberry jam?  An exclamatory sentence shows excitement and ends with an exclamation point.  Example: We are going to Grandfather Mountain in Boone, North Carolina this weekend!

 You have one minute to find two people who have the same favorite color as you do.  Once you find those people, sit on the floor in a group.  GO!

 Around the room, you will find different stations.  With your partners, it is your job to determine the correct answer to each question.  You will have 3 minutes at each center.  When the timer goes off, you will rotate clockwise.

 You have 10 minutes to construct five sentences that have multiple capitalization and punctuation errors.  Write your sentence in the blank space provided.  Once time is up, you will switch papers with your elbow partner in order to correctly edit them and determine what type of sentence each are.  Once your partner is finished editing, they will rewrite the sentence correctly on the lines provided.  Once you have switched, you will have 10 minutes to edit each other’s sentences.  Don’t hold back! Make your sentences tricky!
