9/29/2016E. Hazen - oSLB1 HO Trigger Links ● oSLB produced (69 pieces) – First few tested (by me) -- seem OK – Production testing to be done by student over the next few weeks ● Remaining tasks: – Install fibers to RPC (can be done any time) – Install oSLB “kits” on HO HTRs – Test with RPC receivers (not yet available) – Software (next slide)
9/29/2016E. Hazen - oSLB2 oSLB Software ● Basic support already in HCAL SW ● Need some additions: – Control for link synchronization – Add a few new configuration registers – Monitoring support (including BX histogram feature) – Firmware updates from DB – Update the hyperdaq expert view a bit
9/29/2016E. Hazen - oSLB3 oSLB Fiber Connector Problem LC connector locking tabs don't fit through front panel. They must be cut short, and then are difficult to reach to disconnect fibers We don't want to perform this surgery on our long (and difficult to replace) fibers to the RPC system.
9/29/2016E. Hazen - oSLB4 A Proposed Solution Semi-permanently attach 1m fibers to oSLB Mount a quad LC/LC coupler on HTR Uses existing mounting holes on HTR panel with a simple standoff and bracket
9/29/2016E. Hazen - oSLB5 Fiber Coupler Solution ● Cost: < US$100 per oSLB – M&S: $33 for cables, $15 for coupler, $12 hardware – Labor: maybe free (grad student?) ● Some solution is needed; this one seems relatively clean and inexpensive ● Would ship “kits” to CERN with oSLB, fibers attached, coupler and hardware for each in a bag ● Only a few minutes to install on a HTR
9/29/2016E. Hazen - oSLB6 Summary - Manpower ● Tasks, who will do them – Test oSLBs BU student – Procure and install fibersArjan / Ianos? – Software Eric / Jason – Install and test at CERN Eric + ??? ● Schedule, for discussion
