D - WORKSHOPS & SECTORS

WHAT WILL YEAR 9 STUDENTS DO AT AMBITIONS 2016? You will take part in 5 interactive workshops run by employers

WHAT’S THE AIM OF THESE WORKSHOPS? The aim is for you to think about the connections between types of work and the subjects you could choose to do in Years 10 and 11

WHAT WILL THESE WORKSHOPS INVOLVE? Most of the workshops will involve a practical activity or an opportunity to try out a relevant work skill

HOW WILL YOU CHOOSE WHAT WORKSHOPS TO DO? You will complete a CHOICES FORM and choose 5 different employment sectors in which you are interested

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO NOW? Next you need to find out about the different sectors in which workshops are available so that you can make some good workshop choices

THERE ARE 29 DIFFERENT EMPLOYMENT SECTORS

YOU WILL NEED TO DECIDE WHICH 5 TO CHOOSE

YOU WILL ALSO BE ASKED TO MAKE A RESERVE CHOICE (JUST IN CASE!)

THE 29 DIFFERENT EMPLOYMENT SECTORS ARE…

AEROSPACE ANIMAL HEALTH & WELFARE ARMY AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEERING BROADCASTING & MEDIA

BUILDING PROFESSIONALS BUSINESS & ADMINISTRATION CATERING & HOSPITALITY COMPUTING CONSTRUCTION TRADES

CREATIVE ARTS & CRAFTS DESIGN & GRAPHICS ENGINEERING ENVIRONMENTAL & LAND BASED EMERGENCY SERVICES FINANCIAL SERVICES

HAIR, BEAUTY & COMPLEMENTARY THERAPIES HEALTH & SOCIAL CARE LEGAL SERVICES LEISURE & TOURISM MEDICINE & NURSING

PERFORMING ARTS PRE-SCHOOL & PRIMARY TEACHING ROYAL AIR FORCE ROYAL NAVY

SALES & MARKETING SCIENCE & MATHS SECONDARY & FE TEACHING SPORT (You’ll get a chance to investigate different job sectors in more detail shortly)

IMPORTANT THINGS FOR YOU TO THINK ABOUT BEFORE MAKING YOUR CHOICES…… Remember that many sectors will include a very wide range of quite different jobs - don’t be surprised if some of your workshops focus on jobs that you weren’t expecting! Choose sectors that interest YOU - don’t be influenced by other people or their choices To make the best workshop choices always do some research before choosing You will need to identify 6 sectors that interest you as you will be making a reserve choice (just in case you can’t get all of your top 5 choices)
