Performance Enhancing Drugs A lesson on getting your students to choose the right drugs!

Preparation is key Pairs are given a Performance enhancing drug to research for homework or the previous lesson is spent doing research. 1. Benefits to performance 2. Type of athlete who would benefit and why 3. Health risks/side effects 4. Wider consequences (legality, bans etc) Drugs 1.Peptide hormones 2.Diuretics 3.Narcotic Analgesics 4.Beta Blockers 5.Anabolic steroids 6.Stimulants

Main Task Can either be done as a Dragon’s Den or As a walk and talk where students are given a set time to find out what they can about each drug. Key points: 1.Each group/pair has a rep with the whiteboard and the name of the drug on it. 2.Rotate the rep every few minutes – they need to know their stuff! 3.Each pair has 100 credits to spend. They must choose 3 drugs and they must spend all of their credits. 4.At the end they have to justify how they have spent their credits.
