Work Since August 2015 Review and categorize more than 750 comments Review data provided by Ithaka S+R staff Selectively review past LIBQUAL surveys and recommendations arising from those surveys Send selective comments/feedback to stakeholders Send preliminary recommendations to University Librarian

SDIG has divided the survey data into the following focus areas: Collection Development and Access Customer Service, Marketing, and Instruction Facilities, Equipment, and Policies

Preliminary Recommendations: Collection Development and Access A) Formation of a Linked Data Working Group Faculty members favor a general purpose search engine vs. first using library resources. Linked Data is the method by which libraries make their holdings visible to search engines.

Preliminary Recommendations: Customer Service, Marketing, and Instruction B) Formation of a Library Instruction Committee Small numbers of students have attended any library instructional session. Committee can streamline existing course offerings, advertising, and outreach. Committee can develop strategies to fill identified gaps in instruction in areas.

Preliminary Recommendations: Customer Service, Marketing, and Instruction C) Assessment of FAQ and LibAnswers Library provides answers to questions through the website’s FAQ and LibAnswers. In many cases, differing responses to similar questions may cause confusion.

Preliminary Recommendations: Facilities, Equipment, and Policies D) Technical Staffing at Circulation Desk Variety of issues surrounding computers, copying, printing, and scanning. Helpful to have an “IT Ambassador,” possibly a student worker, to resolve and communicate problems requiring tickets with campus IT.

Preliminary Recommendations: Facilities, Equipment, and Policies E) Designation of Group Study and Food-Allowed Space Multiple comments for more, better,or different study spaces: “More open spaces where talking was allowed. For group work. Reserving study rooms farther in advance.” “A non-silent collaborative space.” “It would be nice if some of the study rooms were designated as ‘group study’ or ‘quiet study’ since the walls are really thin and you can hear the people next to you.”

E) Designation of Group Study and Food-Allowed Space (cont.) Overwhelming number of comments requesting a place where students can bring in their food or drink and study within a more relaxed food environment. “I wish we were allowed to bring food, like meals, into certain spaces of Fondren Library, like the first floor, for example.” “Allow food/coffee at least in certain parts of the library.” “Food in Fondren! Maybe a small cafe or designated eating space.” The new Reading Room might be considered an option for a Group Study/Noisy Space.
