Coaching update

 For some time now the committee have been trying to figure out what coaches require and how best we can build on the number of coaches that we currently have.  We carried out a survey which delivered a good response. This has given us the information which we need, in order to plan for the future of West Yorkshire netball.  The county have realised that there is a need for a bursary system and have identified an amount of money which can be used for successful applicants.  Due to the need for more level 2 UKCC coaches in WY., applications will be made available to anyone who is interested and is prepared to volunteer some time to community netball.

 The first round will be ready for September 2016  The total level 1 UKCC, from February 2015 to March 16 is 21  The total level 2 UKCC, from February 2015 to March 16 is 14  There are no new level 3s for that period, however we have 2 people training.

Challenges  Increase numbers of coaches  What areas need coaching development  How we can link coaches to teams/clubs  Find out what coaches want

SUCCESSES  Set up Survey Monkey  Set up coaching bursary  Run some introduction to coaching courses  Amend addresses

Survey Monkey analysis  From 501 responses, 142 say that they coached or lead sessions, once per week.  32 = level %  41 = level %  27% of coaches have no qualification  41 in junior clubs 30.4%  33 in senior clubs 24.4%  106 coach on a weekly basis 78.5%

Survey Monkey analysis  9 fortnightly 6.7%  4 monthly 3.0%  18 other 13.3%

Survey Monkey analysis  When asked what support they would like, to develop their skills:  76 specific workshops 59.8%  37 Mentoring29.1%  29 Equipment22.8%  24 Financial help18.9%

Survey Monkey analysis  60% feel that they would benefit from workshops. Mentoring being the second most requested response. Financial support was highlighted for specific needs, like equipment.  Alternative days for workshops, as they are always on league days!

Survey Monkey analysis  Some requested England coach workshops, Yorkshire Jets specific sessions.  People thought that it would be beneficial for their team to attend workshops, to improve their game.  50.6% interested in developing coaching skills.  64.0% interested in short workshops  48.6% more formal qualification eg UKCC

Survey Monkey analysis  Out of 214 responses:  101 preferred mid week sessions, 60 preferred Saturdays and 53 chose Sunday as their preference.  The majority of people find it difficult to attend development courses, due to other commitments. However, 4% found it difficult due to financial difficulties and locations.  A wide range of responses was received from – schools, juniors, seniors, Jets, coaches and parents etc.  Felt that there should be more information about courses

Survey Monkey analysis  Suggestions of moving Satellite to Saturdays to free up coaches and get more rest time.  More opportunities for 6 year old upwards, across West Yorkshire.  Run courses as refreshers, or just to swap ideas.  This survey has given us clear answers and an insight, as to what coaches want. It will enable us to put things in place to improve our coaching profile.
