Planning to Achieve CCSS Implementation Goals Team Planning Days 1 – 4: An Overview 1

Purpose of the Week The purpose of this week is not only to provide you with the critical elements of the CCSS but also to allow you to engage with your team members and with other schools and districts in a facilitated planning and problem-solving process in order to implement and integrate the Common Core in an effective and sustainable way. 2

Reflection, Content and Planning Activities Daily Personal Reflection Journal Daily Planning and Problem Solving Sessions – End of Days 1-3 Strategic Plan Development – Day 4 3

Using the Personal Reflection Journal The Journal offers each participant the opportunity to engage in the content of both the general session presentations and breakout sessions each day by responding in writing to the questions within the Personal Reflection Journal. The information that you generate individually will be pertinent to your team’s planning and problem-solving activities at the end of each day. All of the planning and problem-solving materials are aligned and interdependent to assist you and your team in creating meaningful results that can then be used as component parts of your School Improvement Plan (SIP) or District Improvement and Assistance Plan (DIAP). 4

Daily Reflection Journal: Engaging the General Session Personal reflections and processing you can use to organize your thoughts and feelings about what is happening each day in your sessions. Process Questions “What is consistent with what I already know?” “What new information am I processing?” “What changes are making me uncomfortable?” “What beliefs will I have to release in order to overcome my discomfort?” “What new behaviors will I have to learn to feel successful using or supporting the implementation of these new standards?” 5

Daily Reflection Journal: Engaging Your Break-Out Sessions Personal reflections on knowledge gained during your break-out sessions. Knowledge Gained Questions (examples) “What three new skills have I learned?” “What supports will I need to understand/implement the CCSS?” “Who will I partner with in order to understand/implement/integrate the CCSS?” “What questions do I need answered?” “What challenges will I face with understanding/implementation/integration?” 6
