Bahamas Bahamas - Five themes -Interesting Facts

Location of the Bahamas ● 25 degrees 4' N 77 degree 20 W is it's absolute location. ● It's relative location is by the southern coast of Florida and to the west of the Gulf of Mexico.

Place; Character of a Place ● Physical characteristics can describe their tropical maritime climate being the lowest at 60 degrees Fahrenheit but is subject to their tropical storms. ● Human characteristics include the population of 309,156 in which they speak English and Creole. The main religion is Baptism and they are governed through the constitutionally parliament democracy.

Regions ● The formal region of this country is governed by a monarchy, modeled after English law and helped along by Queen Elizabeth II. ● Functional regions are defined by it's neighboring to Cuba and Florida. ● People view the Bahamas as a famous tourist spot that's has nice tropical weather all the time, their views are influence the perceptual regions.

Movement ● The Bahamas were inhabited by at one point, the Spanish who followed Columbus, took away many of their native people for slaves. It was later made to be a British crown colony in They became independent in It is now a prospering tourism country with some exceptions in education, health care.

Human-Environment Interaction ● Their excessive tourism has had much impact on the environment which has led to coral reef decay, water pollution and much waste. Their agricultural activities plows away land that effects species like the Flamingos.

Interesting Facts ● The Bahamas has more than 700 islands. ● The name comes from the Spanish word 'bajamar' which means 'shallow water'. ● Pirates were not uncommon in the 1600's&1700's and the famous Blackbeard was even present. ● Their main bird is the Flamingo ● The Baha Men are from the Bahamas.
