Quadrilaterals - 4 sided shapes Which quadrilaterals do you know? What do you know about them? Aim: To learn to identify the important quadrilaterals and to know their identifying properties.

Vertex (Latin: peak) a corner point Edge or side straight lines joining consecutive (neighboring) vertices Diagonal Straight lines joining non-consecutive vertices Interior Angle Exterior Angle

In your book draw a right angle. Draw another right angle on the transparent. Place transparent over the drawing in book such that the two right angles become opposite angles in a quadrilateral. What else do we need such that we obtain 1)a square? 2)a rectangle? Ext: What if the the angles are adjacent instead of opposite?

Summary: A rectangle is a quadrilateral with 4 right angles. A square is a quadrilateral with 4 right angles and all sides of same length. We can also describe a square and a rectangle as follows: Rectangle:- one pair of opposite angles are right angles. - one pair of opposite sides are of equal length Square:- one pair of opposite angles are right angles - three sides of same length
