The Animal Kingdom By Cam Boll and Conor Systrom

The Animal Kingdom Introduction The animal kingdom has over 1.5 Million different species Despite prejudices about animals, only about 5% of them have hair and bones All animals are Eukaryotic, Heterotrophic, and Multicellular Everyone in this room is included in the animal kingdom

Structure Complex Multicellular Cells make up complex systems and organs Eukaryotic cells

Feeding All animals are heterotrophic All animals rely directly or indirectly on plant life to obtain energy Some animals can stay stationary all of their life still obtaining energy All animals must digest food

Reproduction Male animals produce sperm Female animals produce eggs Males fertilize the eggs: depending on the animal this is either internal or external

Major Phyla  Porifera (sponges)  Cnidaria (Jelly fish like, soft bodies)  Platyhelminthes (tapeworms)  Nematoda (pinworms hookworms)  Molluscs (snails, slugs, squid, octopuses)  Anthropod (insects and spiders)  Echinodermata (sea stars)  Chordata (all animals with backbones)  Annelida (worms and leaches)

Images of Animals

Summary All animals are Eukaryotic, Heterotrophic, and Multicellular Animals are all around us in the world They are not just the stereotypical mouse or bear, but are things like jellyfish, worms, bugs, barnacles, sea sponges and many others
