The Amazing Race A How To Guide For A focused Adventure

The Problem How do you make boring dead guys whose names you can't even pronounce interesting for middle school students?

Old English Dead Guy

The plan Step 1 Building the Compass Brainstorming Session with Inter-disciplinary Team to determine objectives of the activity and to devise its format.

The plan Step 2 Charting the Experience Instructional objectives for integration of all subject areas, team building, and experiential learning.

The plan Step 3 Building the Ship Invite the crew members on board Set the sailing date and time Locate the ports of call and navigate routes Create task logs (academic components) for each ships' crew Assign each mate to a ship

The plan Step 4 Setting Sail All hands on deck. Set up the ports of call activities, set expectations for the day, define the boundaries, and assign each crew member to a ship.

The Voyage Students must create a compass and an explorer banner before setting sail.

The students must then visit the King to receive their charter.

The voyage Students eat citrus to ensure the crew does not get Scurvy. Students must measure their fresh water to ensure survival at sea.

The Voyage The crew must walk the plank. Crew members must load the ship with cargo.

The Plan Step 5 Assessment Smooth sailing or rough waters?
