A PARENTING TALK Bobby and Susan Montealegre September 25, 2015 Moral Innocence

How can we teach our children biblical view of sexuality when from a very young age they are exposed with details and images that constantly challenge the very concept of biblical purity? ANSWER: TRAIN those who have access to the hearts of the children –TEACH and TRAIN PARENTS No one can do a better job than a rightly trained parents because no one can represent the parents value system better than themselves The problem is many parents are too afraid to talk about sex because they don’t want to say “too much too soon.” But unfortunately “too much too soon” often turns out in to “too little too late”. “Parents who are fearful of talking to their kids about sex leave a void of silence, that the world would be glad to fill.”

Deut 6:6 These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts.7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. Pro 22:6 Train [1] a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it. Pro 29:17 Discipline your son, and he will give you peace; he will bring delight to your soul. Eph 6:4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.

One in ten young Filipino women age has begun childbearing: 8 percent are already mothers and another 2 percent are pregnant with their first child according to the results of the 2013 National Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS).Aug 28, 2014 In the Philippines, according to the 2002 Young Adult Fertility and Sexuality Study by the University of the Philippines Population Institute (Uppi) and the Demographic Research and Development Foundation, 26 percent of our Filipino youth nationwide from ages 15 to 25 admitted to having a premarital sex experience. What’s worse is that 38 percent of our youth are already in a live-in arrangement

Unplanned pregnancies lead to a higher rate of abortions. In the United States, nearly 4 in 10 teen pregnancies (excluding those ending in miscarriages) are terminated by abortion. There were about 274,000 abortions among teens in In the Philippines, although abortion is illegal, it would shock you to know that we even have a higher abortion rate (25/1,000 women) compared to the United States where abortion is legal (23/1,000 women). Philippine Daily Inquirer Filed Under: People, Lifestyle & Leisure

I. The importance of parents teaching Sex Education Sex ed helps our children understand about their body and helps them feel positive about their bodies Younger kids interested with pregnancy and babies rather than mechanics of sex. Early and honest open communication bet. parent and kids is very important, especially when your child becomes an adolescent or teen Kids are most likely to speak to their parents about all the other trials of adolescence such as depression, relationships, abuse of drugs and alcohol, as well as sexual issues That makes the parents give that one big uncomfortable awkward talk when the child reaches teen age Sex Ed also provides an opportunity to instill your family values in your kids

II. Four principles on sharing sexual knowledge with dignity 1. Consider their moral and physical age 2. Consider the need to know and capacity to understand 3. Understand what the question really is 4. Be careful of descriptive language (terminology)

C. Evils to Avoid 1. Parental impurity and infidelity Heb 13:4 Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. 2. Pornography Psalms 119:37 Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to your word.

D. Practicals Set a special time with your children Genesis 1:24-27 – “God created them male and female” – A great launching pad for conversations about what makes boys and girls different. Genesis 1:28-31 – “Go forth and multiply” – Great place to start talking about how babies are conceived and what sexual intercourse is. Psalm 139:13-18 – “Wonderfully made” – What does it mean that God knits us together in our mother’s wombs? This text provides parents a great place to talk about how babies grow and develop Genesis 2:18-25 – “The two shall become one flesh” – Sex is also about intimacy and there’s a reason why it should be reserved for marriage.

Exodus 20:14 – “You shall not commit adultery” – Going right back to the Ten Commandments we see the prohibition against adultery. This provides kids with an understanding about why adultery is an offense to God. 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 – “Bought with a price” – Sex should be understood in the light of the gospel. Why do we honor God with our bodies? Because even our bodies were bought with a price.
