Project Let’s Fight Against Hunger International Service Project RY by Rotaract Club of Kelana Jaya, D3300 (Malaysia) for World Food Program (WFP)

Hunger – a serial killer who kills more people every year than AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined according to The United Nations World Food Program (WFP). There are 925 million hungry people in the world and 63% or 578 million in Asia and the Pacific and up to 26% or 239 million in Sub-Saharan Africa. The project ‘Let’s Fight Against Hunger’, initiated by Rotaract Club of Kelana Jaya provides a platform for collaborations between World Food Program (WFP) and other interested organizations or clubs in order to achieve the project’s main objective- TO FIGHT AGAINST HUNGER!. A few sub campaigns will be carried out under Project Let’s Fight against Hunger in a form of series. This will be our club’s long term project. Executive Summary

Objectives -To raise awareness and funds for the United Nations' World Food Program (WFP). - To educate people to appreciate food and not to waste food. - To provide a platform for local and international Rotaractors (including Rotarians and Interactors) to reach within and embrace humanity. - To provide opportunities for RAC Kelana Jaya to establish bonding & relationship with Rotaractors from other districts.

Activity #1 Fast to Appreciate To encourage participants to fast for 8 hours or more in a day during the hunger relief week in order to experience and understand the pain of people who are suffering from hunger. This activity is used to educate people to appreciate what they are having now and not to waste or to be choosy with food. Facebook event page was created during a week before charity sales ( 13 th – 20 th Nov ‘11) to raise awareness as well as to invite cyber users to take part. Participants was encouraged to share their daily fasting experience and interact with each others on the event wall.

Activity #2 Heart with Heart Charity Sales With thousands of shoppers walking through the mall, the community corner in One Utama Shopping Mall (4 th Biggest Shopping Mall in the word) is a great and suitable venue to carry out this fundraising and awareness project. Cupcakes with heart shaped icing on top were the highlight of the weekend in the mall (18 – 20 th Nov ’11). Henna drawing was available too. Special thanks to Babycake bakery for supplying the delicious macaroons for the event. Handouts and Video used to deliver important messages to the public in order to create awareness for the hunger. Overall, It was a great kick start for the project Let’s Fight against Hunger.

Activity #3 Charity Movie Night Charity Movie Night will be carried out during a night of a weekend in June Hunger related movie will be chosen as the movie of the night. The full amount of the profits from movie tickets selling will be donated to WFP, meanwhile, a small donation booth will be set up with project buntings to raise awareness and to encourage public to donate. The message of $1/RM2.99 = able to feed 4 children and $50cents/RM1.50 to feed a child and provide one hot/cooked meal through the WFP’s programs in Asia will be delivered. Besides, we might try another way to raise funds by selling snacks e.g popcorns & soft drinks on the spot.

Activity #4 Smiles of the World Smiles of the World is a movement to show our concern and care to those who are suffering from hunger. The objective is to create awareness on hunger and to increase donations for WFP through wefeedback.com. Participants are encouraged to send us their self-portrait photo with their dedications as example attached. We are expecting 5000 participants from all around the world (15 th March 2012 until TARGET ARCHIEVED) Participants may send us their self-portrait photos to our official , and the photos will be uploaded to our official FB page after editing process. * Further Instruction will be announced later. *For illustration purposes only
