 Commemorate the contribution made by people from Marlow in World War One  Explain the involvement of the people of Marlow in WW1 - at home and in battle  Provide a lasting record of the commemoration for future generations  Involve the whole community

Inclusivity of all communities Engagement with all relevant organisations Co-ordinate and achieve objectives through existing organisations Create opportunities for people to contribute and learn Promote the involvement of young people, especially those at school

 Under the auspices of the Marlow Society  Strong links with Marlow Museum  A Marlow Society group teamed with members of other local societies and Marlow Museum  People with wide ranging interests  People with knowledge of local activities, history, facilities, people etc  We have worked with local councils, companies, news media and publicity sources

 Act as a local umbrella organisation  Co-ordinate and encourage activities of local clubs  Focus attention and provide a link to relevant county and national programmes and organisations  Initiate specific (local) projects  Be a source of ideas and project lists and suggestions for other societies  Encourage others

 The first person to die: George Charles Percy Nicholls from the 3 rd Battalion Rifle Brigade (The Prince Consort's Own) was killed in action at Flanders on 18 th October 1914  The last person to die: Albert Todd Rifleman London Regiment 12 th (County of London) Battalion (The Rangers). On 23 rd October 1918  Marlow’s WW1 death toll ran into the hundreds  Several thousand Marlow people were injured  Marlow has WW1 training trenches  Marlow men fought in France, particularly Flanders, Italy, Pozières, and Fromelles, as well as Wieltje, St Julien and Ypres in the Somme  Marlow’s Victory Ball was a highlight of 1919
