Introduction to Advanced Higher

Art and Design provides opportunities to develop aesthetic understanding, creativity and visual awareness, knowledge and appreciation. It encourages candidates to use a range of media and technology to understand, appreciate and respond to their world. The Course promotes creative thinking, encourages independent thought, initiative, innovation, problem solving and the development of personal opinions. Pupils are required to take more responsibility for their own learning than at Higher. They are expected to experiment a lot more and come up with a much more personal vision. Pupils will need to work over and above the class hours given and are encourage to carry a sketchbook with them and take notes on their ideas whenever possible.

Course Options Pupils do one mandatory unit (80 hours) and one optional unit (40 hours) Expressive Enquiry (80 hours) with either Expressive Enquiry with Visual Arts Study OR Expressive Enquiry with Design Activity Design Enquiry(80 hours) with either Design Enquiry with Expressive Activity OR Design Enquiry with Design Study

Resources I would recommend that you access: Websites

Help Study Support Tuesdays (if more than one pupil) - I would recommend coming to this. There are many resources pupils can access both in school and also at home through OneNote, including ‘Essential Info’ ppts.

What is expected of pupils Computers brought in every day, charged Attendance at the Masterclass Homework in on time Work done at home, over and above classwork, to develop skills It extremely helpful if pupils can access internet at home
