LEARNING ART HISTORY WITH CREATIVE WRITING INSTRUCTOR: JOLEEN SMITH Welcome to ART 1021

Who I am? Personal I am a 32 year certifiable bookworm. I live in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania where I work as a certified nursing assistant in a surgery department when I am not proctoring online courses. After high school, I took some time off to try to decide on my ideal career. This led me down some interesting career paths. Most involved healthcare in some way. I am the oldest of eight siblings. Family is very important to me, and we are all very close. At this time, I have one niece and four nephews.

Who I am? Educational After high school, I started attending school for many different careers. I have always had an interest in healthcare but decided nursing was not for me. This led me to pursue information about social services and a few other careers. I finally determined that education and teaching were the choices I wanted to complete.

Who I am? Career I completed my Bachelors degree in English from Ashford University and went on to pursue my Masters in Education with a specialization in online technology. This helped me achieve my goal of teaching in the online environment as well as giving me valuable first hand experience from a student’s perspective. This will be my second online course that I have proctored.

Course Description Art 1021 is Learning Art History with Creative Writing. This course will cover many broad time periods relevant to the development of art. A series of creative writing assignments will allow the student to create their own story based on works of art. Areas addressed in this course are the eight main historical art periods in history, key artists from each time period, and the main characteristics that can be used to identify each art genre.

How to be successful? There are several ways to be successful in this class. The first way is submit all posts and assignments on time. Be thorough in your answers and replies to keep the discussions flowing. The second way to be successful is to stay in communication with me. I am not a mind reader, and I will not always be able to tell if there is a problem that is not obvious. me as soon as possible if you are having problems, questions, or personal issues that make completing tasks on time difficult. I will address every situation on a case by case basis, but the late policy is also posted in the course syllabus.

How to be successful? Cont. The final way to be successful in this class is to develop communications with your fellow students. They can be valuable resources for many different areas. Overall, have fun in this class. Many of the assignments ask you to use your creativity to complete.
