strictly confidential Introduction to Lenses 07/28/2015: 2014 Applied Core Technology Inc., All Rights 3 Lens Terms  Focal Length (F, EFL, FL): Distance from the front of your lens to your camera’s sensor.  Longer focal length = Narrower field of view  Field of View (FOV): Image area expressed as rectangular dimensions: H x V, or angularly Horizontal degrees x Vertical degrees, or diagonal measurement  Lens Sensor Size: Size of image projected at the focal point of the lens.  Sensor size should be >= camera sensor size.  Uses Single measurements: ½”, 2/3”, 1” etc.  Working Distance (WD): Distance from front of lens to object under inspection.  Depth of Field (DoF): The distance from the front of your focus area to the back of your focus area  Magnification: (Sensor Size)/(FOV) Higher magnification means your spreading a small image over a large sensor  Telecentric lens: A type of lens used for measurement applications that has low distortion, fixed working distance, and fixed magnification.  CCTV Lens: Fixed angular field of view, ability to adjust working distance giving you different rectangular fields of view. Good for low light applications with larger FOVs.
