Big6 Research Model  Task definition  Information seeking strategies  Location and access  Use of information  Synthesis  Evaluation

1. Task definition: How do I use the media center to help me as a student in JMCHS to be successful?  Define the information problem  Identify information needed

2. Information seeking strategies  Determine all the possible sources    Kindle  ipad  Internet  Print (books, magazines, newspaper)  Select the best possible sources

3. Location and access  Location sources  Fiction  Reference  Non-fiction  Biographies  Periodicals (magazines, newspapers)  DVD (Teachers only)  Find information within sources  Boolean searches (online) versus table of content and index (print)

4. Use of information  Engage  (e.g., read, hear, view touch)  Extract relevant information

5. Synthesis  Organize from multiple sources  Present the information

6. Evaluation  Judge the product (effectiveness)  Judge the process (efficiency)

Policies to Remember  Internet usage policy- separate presentation available.  Circulation- 2 books for 2 weeks.  You will be charged for lost or damaged material (Use it, and return it so others can share the information and you won’t accrue any fines.)  No printing without staff permission  21 st century skills  Computer rules here are the same as the computer lab  No games, No Facebook.
