definitions Criollos: inhabitants of Latin America of European descent, especially of Spanish descent. Peninsulares: In the colonial caste system of Spanish America, they were Spanish born Spaniards or mainland Spaniard residing in the New World, as opposed to a person of full Spanish descent born in the Americas (known as criollos). The word "peninsular" makes reference to the Iberian Peninsula where Spain is located.criollos Mestizos: people of mixed racial ancestry, especially of mixed European and Native American ancestry.
