‘Connecting people to strengthen youth development’ Key activity areas to achieve this have been: Access to good information Website Newsletters Youth Service Directory Creating opportunities to engage with each other, such as: Working4Youth Roundtables Forums and training opportunities Supporting collaboration Services able to communicate about their directions Sharing national and regional information Supporting regional approach to youth work training

Working4Youth Website The Working4Youth website at is updated regularly with youth sector related information: Information in one 6-month period included: 360 Notice Board items (with items on National, Regional and Local Youth current affairs – Policy - Funding –Training – Resources, etc) 95 Calendar Events Plus other information such as publications and links A snapshot of website use over a 4-month period showed: 3,811 Individual visits to the website, including 17,955 Page views

Newsletters Over 150 weekly e-Newsletters have been distributed 2010 – Newsletters circulate information and resources that are available on the Working4Youth website, and are distributed to: Rotorua youth service providers listed in the Youth Services Directory Individual youth workers Youth services in Taupo and Eastern Bay of Plenty Individuals in central region and nationally who have registered with the website

Youth Sector Development in Rotorua some key threads… 2000  Te Puna Rangatahi  RDC establishes Youth Policy + dedicated Youth Projects role 2001  Focus on developing information on young people in Rotorua – RDC publications 2002  Youth Services Directory established (hard copy) by RDC and updated annually  HYPE network established - youth workers meeting regularly to network

2004  MSD tenders Youth Transition Service in Rotorua  Community consultation on youth transitions leads to: ‘Rotorua Strategy – Youth Transitions 2004 – 2007’ 2005→  Rotorua Youth Transitions Strategy Implementation Group (SIG) established: monthly ‘SIG Meetings’ to lead implementation of the Rotorua Strategy – Youth Transitions  Recognition of value of ‘glue’ resource to support youth sector network  Information sharing, networking and training forums delivered 2006→  Working groups formed around specific issues  Identification of issues leads to development of resource / Te Utuhina Youth AOD contract  FACS Local Service Mapping

2007  Young People in Rotorua – Community Planning Day  ‘Rotorua Strategy – Youth Transitions 2004 – 2007’ revised for period 2007 –  MYD regionalised  Nga Ara Totika pilot project runs with success 2008  Working4Youth Website established, administered by RDC  Rotorua Youth Services Directory becomes online resource 2009  HYPE no longer active: Youth Network Breakfasts  Working4Youth takes over update of website  ‘Exec Group’ supports W4Y planning

2010  Rotorua Youth Transitions Strategy Implementation Group (SIG) becomes ‘Working4Youth’  ‘SIG Meetings’ become ‘Roundtables’  Working4Youth Newsletter begins 2011  MSD funding of Wokring4Youth ends June 2011  Taupo and Eastern BOP pages added to website to support development of services for young people in transition in those communities 2012  Youth Transition Service ends - Youth Service launched (NEET services)  Youth Projects Trust fund holder for W4Y applications  Funding support from Rotorua Trust and COGS  Reduced resource available for W4Y activities 2013  Rotorua Children’s Team  Excel Rotorua – Rotorua Education Initiative  Capable Rotorua
