Introduction We all know how the Web search works: all you need is to provide relevant terms that describe the concept or the topic you are interested in, click “Search” and the search engine will generate the list of results ranked by popularity. But what if you don’t exactly know how to describe the concept or the topic you are interested in? What if you just want “something of the kind”? In this case, you need to try discovery search engines: these tools rank the Web by similarity (not by popularity). They allow you to discover more pages based on the one you found most relevant.

Definition  Search Engines Definition  Discovery Tools Definition A search engine is a web site that collects and organizes content from all over the internet. Those wishing to locate something would enter a query about what they'd like to find and the engine provides links to content that matches what they want. A searching tool that uses algorithms to compress information into a format for optimal searching. It groups results under different headers(location, date, and domain-specific information) to let users continuously refine queries with speed and scalability.

Why it is important to use search engines and discovery tools? Every researcher will be able to:  Identify Search engines and discovery tools.  Use Search engines and discovery tools.  Generate the list of results ranked by similarity.  Find a topic or a concept easily by using similarity.  Explain how Search engines and discovery tools work.  Identify the three useful and advanced discovery search engine tools such as Google’s Related: Operator, Similar Pages, and similar sites.

How to use search engines and discovery tools? Search engines and discovery tools provide relevant terms that describe the concept or the topic you are interested in, click “Search” and the search engine will generate the list of results ranked by similarity. Besides it continuously uncovers relevant keywords to discover more pages of websites based on the one you found most relevant. This method of search will be beneficial for because it will help you to find what to need to do your research paper. For example If you don’t know how to describe the concept or the topic of media, you need to try Search engines and discovery tools in order to rank the Web by similarity (not by popularity).

Who use search engines and discovery tools ? The target audience of my project is every researchers or everyone who are using the web to find a useful information about their topic. The presentation will analyze each section briefly because it is not necessary to be a long presentation of mixed information. Thus it will include simple points because the important thing is to provide useful information about the topic and the concept and teach them how to use search engines and discovery tools in a proper way.

There are three examples of useful and advanced discovery search engine tools in the web such as:  Similar Sites  Google’s Related: Operator  Similar Pages

Google’s Related: Operator This is the simplest and still probably most effective way to search for similar sites. You can either search for related: on Google or use the “similar” button which sits next to the cache link on some results.

Similar Pages Is a standalone tool that uses its own technology and claims to let users dig into the “hidden” parts of the web – those that you wouldn’t be able to find using Google only: whereas “ordinary” search engines rank results by popularity (preventing us thus from seeing less popular pages), SimilarPages rank pages by similarity.

Similar Sites SimilarSites provides a list of websites similar to a particular site on one page. To find similar sites simply enter the name of the website and hit the “Enter” tush. You can also suggest related sites and vote on whether you find recommended sites similar or not.
