Writing a memoir about a place and event that helped you understand yourself Helps us see how we use writing to make sense of ourselves and our physical surroundings
Writing an analysis of visual argument in an advertisement Helps us see how writing can help us make sense of what we see Helps us become aware of advertising affects us
Writing an analysis and critique of a written argument to see if it persuades the target audience. We are looking for an answer to the questions What makes an argument function well or poorly for various audiences and situations? What choices do writers make to persuade their audiences? How does my writing help me make sense of others’ writing & ideas?
Take a stance on an ethical issue or argue a proposal for action Assess your audience & build a bridge to them Layout your claim Develop supporting reasons Choose evidence Identify, consider, and respond to opposing claims
