PROJECT ON PIEZOELECTRIC CAR

PATTERN OF EXPLAINATION What is piezoelectric effect ? What are piezoelectric generators? What are the advantages of piezoelectric generators ? What is piezoelectric car? Block diagram of the car What are advantages of the piezoelectric car ?

PIEZO ELECTRIC EFFECT Piezoelectricity was discovered in 1880 by Pierre and Paul-Jacques Curie, who found that when they compressed certain types of crystals including quartz, tourmaline, and Rochelle salt, along certain axes, a voltage was produced on the surface of the crystal. This effect is known as piezoelectric effect. Rochelle salt White quartz

PIEZOELECTRIC GENERATORS Piezoelectric generator is nothing but a piezoelectric crystal sandwiched between two metallic electrodes . So when the mechanical pressure/stress is applied on the crystal ,emf is generated. Piezo crystal Upper Metallic plate Lower Metallic plate

IMPORTANCE This effect is exploited in a variety of practical devices such as microphones, phonograph pickups, and wave filters in telephone-communications systems and for electric power generation etc .ex

IMPORTANCE The converse effect is also possible i.e when the emf is applied along certain electrical axes in the crystal ,this crystal produces mechanical vibrations . This effect is used in some variety of practical devices such as buzzers, ultra sonic filters and sonar for the production of U.S waves. ex

PIEZOELECTRIC CAR This car is made up of piezoelectric tires. These tires are equipped with piezoelectric cables, these cables consist of piezoelectric generators. So when the tires are rotated on the road, pressure is applied on the tires continuously. Then they generate electricity. Piezoelectric rim

BLOCK DIAGRAM OF THE PIEZO-ELECTRIC CAR Transmission system Converter for A/C External charging socket Battery system Drive motors Power steering HP distributor Inverter Compressor for A/C Tires with Piezoelectric generators RGUKT,IIIT,NUZVID

ADVANTAGES OF THE CAR The batteries in this car are self charged as the car is in motion. It is due to the power generated by the tires. So only onetime external charging is enough. By using Lead zirconate piezo crystal we can generate until 100000 volts by small deformations of the tire. Eco friendly i.e, it does not pollute the environment.
