Hindu gods and goddesses

Brahma The absolute Shiva God of creation and destruct -ion Ganga Goddess of the river Ganges parviti Mother goddess vishn u lakshmi The preserver Goddess of money and fortune Ganesh Remover of obstacles Saraswati

Brahma Brahma aka the absolute is one of the three main gods in Hinduism as he is the creator. His mind sons are marici, Atri, Angiras, Bhrghu, pulstaysta, pulaha, kratuja, pracetas, Vashishta, narada and from his body came nine sons, daksa, dharma, kama, anger, greed, Maya, lust, joy, death, bharata and a daughter called angaja. In order to make the world and the human race Brahma had to make a goddess out of himself witch he called gayarti. It was half woman and half man. Brahma has four heads but used to have five because one was lost later when he lied to Vishnu So Shiva became very angry.

Shiva Shiva is the destroyer or transformer of the universe and is one of the main gods in Hinduism Shiva is often pictured by a boy meditating with a snake near/on him and is married to sati/parviti/kali who gave birth to Ganesha. He is responsible for death and destruction and the positive sense of destroying the ego.

vishn u He rides the swift-flying bird Garuda which can spread the hindu knowledge with great courage. The dark color of him represents the passive and formless ether. He rests on the bed of the powerful, coiled serpent, Seshanag who represents the sleeping universe. Vishnu is also known as Hari, the remover. Vishnu is the preserver god in Hindu religion and is married to lakshmi, goddess of money and fortune He has many forms and they include: Kalki Krishna Narasimha Kuma Matsya Parasurama Buddha Vamana Rama varaha

ganesh a He rides a tiny mouse and In his hands he carries a rope (to carry followers to the truth), an axe (to cut followers attachments), and a sweet dessert ball (to reward followers for spiritual activity). His fourth hand's palm is always extended to bless people. Ganesha is the four handed elephant-headed god of removing obstacles and is the son of Shiva and parviti.

Saraswati is the wife of Brahma and has the powers of speech, wisdom and learning. She has four hands representing four aspects of human personality in learning; mind, intellect, alertness and ego. She has sacred writings in one hand and a lotus witch is a symbol of true knowledge in the second. With her other two hands she plays the music of love and life on the violin. She is dressed in white witch is a sign of purity and rides on a white swan. saraswat i

GANGA Ganga, representing the river Ganges is shown white in colour, wearing a white crown, sitting on a crocodile, holding in her right hand a water lily and in her left hand a lute.

parvit i Both of her incantations have eight hands and great power and energy (Shakti). Durga rides on a lion and Kali rides on a corpse of a demon. Parvati was called Sati in her previous divine incarnation. The family of Lord Shiva, Parvati and their sons Ganesh and Kartikeya is an ideal example of family unity and love. Parviti is the wife of Shiva and mother of Ganesh and Kartikeya.

lakshm i lakshmi is the Hindu Goddess of wealth and beauty. She is the wife of Lord Vishnu, God of protection and preservation. She is depicted with four arms, two of which hold lotus flowers, and accompanied by two elephants. She is shown either sitting or standing, but always on a lotus, her sacred flower. The lotus is a very special flower–while it lives in the water, water rolls off its surface, leaving the flower untouched. Lakshmi and her lotuses remind us that, while we should enjoy the wealth and prosperity given by her, we should remain unchanged by them at our centrer

Hindu festivals

holi Hoi is a Hindu festival witch marks the coming of the spring where Hindu's spray coloured water at each other and wear old clothes so not to get dirty. They do this to remember a story where their god Krishna, an avatar of vishnu, threw a bucket of Paint over his friend radha, the milkmaid, and she threw some back, so, soon they were both covered in paint.

How Ganesh got An elephant head

One day Shiva's wife parviti decided to Bathe in a nearby river. She swam Vigorously, stretching her arms and legs. As she swam, the dust from her body Mixed with water to create a baby! She Thought when Shiva came back from His Meditations, they'd be a family at last!

parviti took the baby, Ganesh back To their home. She lay him down in Arms and fell asleep gazing at him.

As soon as his mum, Parviti fell Asleep baby Ganesh crept out of Bed to keep guard.

When Shiva had completed his Meditations, he came back to see his Wife. When he got there he found Ganesh barring his way.

“who are you?” he asked. Shiva was furious. “get out of my way!” He commanded but Ganesh held him back. In his anger Shiva struck Ganesh on the head and it came flying off.

“what have you done!” screamed Parviti, “he was our son!” Shiva Replied “how come he did not know I am the lord of destruction?” “he Was only just born.” she wept Bitterly. Instantly Shiva felt guilty and Ordered his messengers to find him a New head.

Shiva's messengers searched around The world and heavens but they Couldn't bear to behead the sleeping infants.

At last, one of his messengers saw a Baby elephant who had been rejected By his mother so he scooped the head Up and brought it back to Shiva.

Shiva put the head on to ganesh's body, And breathed life into the body. Instantly He sat up bolt right and parviti smiled. “A family at last!!!” she thought.
