What to Expect Lesson 1
Soooo, what are some of your “expectations” about this class? This class deals with how the United States became the United States – from Revolutionary Times up through the Civil War and Reconstruction. (we will begin with a brief review of early American History.) We will also focus on geography concepts, vocabulary building and responsibilities of citizenship.

Class Rules Be Prepared! Bring all necessary materials to class EVERYDAY Interactive Notebook (“Passport”), pens/pencils, colored pencils, highlighters, paper, planner Come to class having completed your assignments Do YOUR part; be READY to PARTICIPATE in discussions and activities Awwwww! Don’t let the dog EAT your homework!
Class Rules Be Prompt! Tardiness is a BAD habit ; 3 tardies = after school detention. Be SEATED and WORKING when the Tardy Bell rings. Be Patient! Consider the ideas and opinions of others. Disagree in an agreeable way. Encourage and Appreciate. FOCUS on YOUR success. Be Productive! Follow instructions the first time; NO EXCUSES! Complete ALL assignments NEATLY. Use your time WISELY Actively participate in class activities and discussion.

Class Rules Do NOT write, read or pass notes during class These will be confiscated, read by your teacher and the administration and then sent HOME! Keep ALL food, gum, drinks and candy out of the classroom. Cheating of any kind, results in an unacceptable paper Includes homework, class work and tests! ALL school-wide rules and policies are to be followed
What supplies will I need? 1.2 inch, 3 –ring binder (poly) – (**this will be shared with Science) 1.Lots of loose leaf paper/ re-enforcers 2.Set of 3 dividers 3.Sheet protectors (at least 10) 4.Black/blue ink pens 5.Colored pencils/ thin markers 6.Highlighters (various colors)
Classroom Procedures: Arrival: - Be seated in your assigned desk, copy down “Reminders” in your planner. - Begin the RAP assignment. Dismissal – I dismiss you – not the bell! Announcements: You are to be SILENT during any announcement so everyone may hear. Bathroom Use – Use on your own time. - Hall passes will be given / unused hall passes = exam bonus points

LATE WORK. CW is never accepted late! Assignments valued at 50 or more Points are deducted 10% for each day Late. Grading System Excused absence from school results in NO late penalties if work is completed in timely manner. Keep Track of grades using JPAMS What To Expect A B 75 – 84 C 67 – 74 D 0 – 66 F EVERYTHING COUNTS!
Grading System Beware of the mighty ZERO…. -Failure to complete and turn in assignments result in zeroes posted to JPAMS. -One zero averaged with an “A – 100” results in an “F”. **Zeroes are extremely difficult to overcome.
All Graded Work (including tests and quizzes) will be returned to the student: Will be placed back into the notebook section it originated or in designated pocket folder. **It is very important that you keep up with your completed assignments and those that have been returned! In the case of a grade discrepancy: If the graded paper can not be produced, then the grade in question will NOT be changed.
