How will Careers Help? Navigate through your high school years. Chart and prepare your post-high school journey. Prepare your portfolio. (graduation requirement) Prepare for your Student Led Conference. (graduation requirement)

Why Do I Need Careers? It is a graded course. WA State graduation requirement Counts toward Athletic and Activity eligibility Helps keep you on track to graduate

When Does Careers Meet? Mondays and Tuesdays between 2 nd and 3 rd periods.

Your Advisor Is Here To SUPPORT your academic achievement. ADVOCATE for you when you need help. Help you NAVIGATE through high school. Help you build your PORTFOLIO. Help you prepare your STUDENT LED CONFERENCE. Not just a pretty face!

Portfolio Requirements 3 inch three ring binder with dividers and page protectors. –Bring these to class by September 17 Three portfolio sections: –LEARNER –CAREER –CITIZEN

LEARNER Documents Four Best Works –Must be something where you did your best, learned something, and are proud of your work. –Must be from 4 different classes. –One due each quarter. –Your teachers may give you recommendations for Best Work submissions. You are going to read the equivalent of 25 books this year! The majority of this will be done in your classes, as class assignments. When you are assigned reading material, document it in your reading log and track the amount of pages. –Reading log documentation has been handed out to you. It may also be found online. 200 pages of fiction = 1 book 100 pages of non-fiction = 1 book Any additional reading you do needs to be documented in your reading log.

CITIZEN Documents Activities, Honors, Awards –Place copies of awards in your portfolio. –Keep track of these for your resume’, and scholarship/college applications.

TYPED DOCUMENTS ALL portfolio documents must be submitted in final draft form. (TYPED) We have made this easy for you by having all forms available on Mrs. Session’s website. Open the assignment, type on the form and print it or save it to your Z drive.

PRESENTATION (AKA: Student Led Conference or SLC) Your Student Led Conference will take place in May. The SLC is a multi-media presentation (given by you) which includes pieces of your portfolio. You will have minutes for your presentation. The SLC is mandatory - it must be successfully completed in order to pass Careers.

Your Presentation Will Address These Questions 1.How will you contribute to society? 2.Who are you socially? 3.How is school going for you? What are you learning? 4.What experiences have you had that make you who you are? 5.What do you want to be when you “grow up?”
