EDU671: Fundamentals of Educational Research (MRD1414A) Ashford University Instructor: Dr. Kathleen Lunsford May 1, 2014

Area of Focus – Bullying My area of focus will be “Bullying”, to be identified within the classroom and school, with student’s engagement to assist with continued education improvement for students and success. To scrutinize and make sure that the students in a classroom do not bully their fellow classmates.

Related literature: I think before any topic that needs to be discussed or researched there should be certain amount of interest in the person who will be analyzing/ assessing it. I think induction for any topic depends on the writer and their believes. If they think that research before starting a literature is important then they will do it, otherwise not. Another important factor about researching could be the topic, and how it affects others, depending on the importance, an action research can be conducted.

Title: Stop Bullying – Kids prevention U.S. Department of Health and Human Service Government website Last updated on March, 14, 2014 The website features kids sections, training center, how not to be a bystander, and the same info in Spanish. It also has info for state policies and laws.

Define Variables All ages from Kindergarten to High school, which will be, ages 5 to years old and the participants will be the full student body in school totaling up to 500 students, depending the project type. Other will be the parents and neighbors who the students will come in contact with when asking questions for surveys and reports, specifically 5 th graders.

Research question(s) Will achievement of “stop bullying” at an early age, improve students’ academic level? How can I get students and their parents involved? What techniques can I use to stop bullying in school? What impact will it bring to our community? Does bullying others in a classroom hinder educational achievements? Does bullying in a classroom affect a student’s academic outcome? Will bullying finally be stopped? Does bullying in school create anger, violence, and suicides?

Description of intervention or innovation I believe the introduction given by the teachers about bullying will help students by making them feel secure, and safe in the environment. It is always better to have student’s voice their opinion for something that is not right. It creates a sense of independence, accountability and ownership of the cause/awareness.

For the research, students will participate in a shared data; establish a constitution as a new step towards non-bullying in classroom.

Data collection It is not easy to obtain a reaction after the research if various factors are not put in place. Such as qualitative and quantitative data collection, which includes observe, evaluate, and interact. We need to create questions so that we can have answers, and be able to interact and conclude. We need data collection of some sort to analyze, assess, and reach to a certain point of achievement. Tools help us generate answers, observe if students are involved, their level of interest, their type of behaviors, and interest in a paper which can be beneficial for others to read and follow.

For example, triangulated data is a good way of obtaining data collection. Where several sources of data will be used, for a better outcome and the research questions match the data sources from surveys, questions, interviews, and matrixes complied by the students and teacher.

Data consideration I think if we do not have a mixed-method of data collection for a proposed research the issues will not be solved ethically, as different tools, methods and data collected shows us how well we understand and have researched for different and better outcomes.

By gaining approval of the school educators or by reading their reviews/feedback and concerns makes a topic valid and reliable. We need to adapt to different ways of learning and teaching. My research will involve children and their behaviors that affect others. I will need to be careful in asking permissions and consents before I begin it. To stop bullying is to help society through the knowledge of the society. The most ethical part will be respecting how other students feel. In addition, parent’s involvement will be as volunteers, they will have an option if they want to participate or not.

Data analysis and interpretation This is when the frequency of time of continuous questions the students will be asking for surveys, collecting information and then reporting them to the teacher. If the students are respectful when communicating for their research; or going out of their comfort zone to complete them. The amount of time taken, repetition of the questions, and how well students converse with others all falls in this category.

Action plan I have developed my action plan according to what I have witnessed as to how students in a classroom bully others, making it difficult for them to succeed and achieve education. I have selected this topic “Bullying” to help educational development, many students are affected due to being bullied. When students come in a class spreading negative behaviors, it creates a lot of emotions, low-esteem, violence, and suicidal events.

One day I hope to make a difference in my classroom. Many students are being bullied in schools, children are getting hurt and losing lives. Bullying takes us to deaths, emotional trauma, and physical impairment, for which the person is not at fault. I believe certain societies, living environments, lack of education, and some adults all contribute to bullying.

Thank you for being here !!!
