30. sep. Monitoring of oil spill Independent of darkness & clouds radar images (SAR) from satellites deliver information about extent of oil spills and oil seeps. The European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) - responsible for the maritime safety in EU – use satellite data for tracking oil spill extent & identification of illegal oil spills. The oil industry uses satellite data to monitor the environment around oil platforms & to localise oil seeps for identifying potential new oil reserves. Tanzania and Norway Norway will assist the Government of Tanzania in establishing their national MRV system (build-on to NAFORMA) Main Norwegian contribution to the Tanzanian MRV-system will be related to introduction of collection and processing of data from airborne LiDAR, and SAR and optical data from satellites
Brazil and Norway Norway will help improve INPEs Brazilian Amazon Monitoring Program PRODES - Yearly Deforestation Assessment DEGRAD - Yearly Degradation Assessment DETER - Bi-weekly detection of new deforestation and degradation Optical data is the primary data source in the Brazilian systems, Norwegian expertise will introduce SAR As supplementary to PRODES and DEGRAD As a tool for Early warning Norwegian expertise will in addition help make INPEs system more automatic, as well assist in the extension to other forest biomes Regarding extension onto the “Cerrado”, a link to Tanzania is established CBERS downloading at Svalbard
