Purposes of Building Huts Provide adequate housing for villagers Restore destroyed homes –Earthquakes –Fires Develop working relationships with villagers Learn building techniques from villagers

Pre-Service Process Meet with village leaders to determine housing needs Plan specific building sites Assign families to specific homes Encourage villagers to make adobes well in advance of service expedition Plan Global Humanitarian service expeditions Recruit expedition volunteers

Building Process Overview 1.Level land 2.Measure and stake building plot 3.Dig trenches for footings 4.Add rock as footings 5.Dig mud pit and make mud mortar 6.Build adobes for walls, leaving spaces for door and windows 7.Finish with metal roof, doors, windows, and (if desired) external stucco and paint
