Presentation transcript:

The Scientific Method The steps scientists use to develop and conduct their experiments.

The steps are: 1. Background 2. Problem 3. Hypothesis 4. Materials 5. Procedure 6. Data 7. Results 8. Analysis/Conclusion

Background: 1) What background information might be needed to understand the experiment? (what is an “ollie”?) 2) What did you observe that made you interested in this experiment? (I noticed certain shoes seemed to help me ollie better.)

Problem: ** What question are you trying to answer, or what is your experiment trying to prove? (Do Airwalk brand shoes help me ollie better than Vans?)

Hypothesis ** What do you think the answer to your problem will be? (I think I ollie better with Airwalk brand shoes.)

Materials: ** A detailed list of everything you will use to conduct your experiment. Airwalk shoes (4 different kinds) Vans shoes (4 different kinds) My World Industries skateboard

Procedure: **A NUMBERED list of steps to conduct your experiment. Someone reading your procedure should be able to do it exactly! 1. Put on Airwalk shoes tied loosely. 2. Try 3 ollies, rate on a scale of 1-10 how good each ollie was.

Data: **Any recorded information observed from your experiment. Usually in charts, tables, pictures, etc.

Results: ** A written summary of what data was observed. (so if someone didn’t understand your chart or graph, this would sum it up for them!) (The average Airwalk shoe rated 8.4 on a scale of The average Vans shoe rated only 4.3 on a scale of 1-10.)

Analysis/Conclusion: 1) Was your hypothesis right? 2) What was the answer to your question based on your data? 3) What conclusions could you infer based on your observations/data? (I was right, I do ollie better in Airwalk shoes! They seem to have better grip and be more comfortable to use as skate shoes.)
