Outline Progress So Far We Have Covered I. Introduction And Background Proofs. II. First Ten Generations of Genesis 5. III. Noah's Three Sons. NEXT IV. Second Ten Generations Genesis 11.

Bible Chronology II Quick Review: We have come all the way from the Creation of Adam to the year of the Flood (1656 A.C.), and then at the end of the study we learned about Noah's sons and that his son Shem was born in the year 1558 A.C. (Remember the A.C. Does not mean after Creation but that it means After Adam Was Created on the sixth day of Creation. We also learned to write down what we see and to take note of patterns....that these things will become even more important to us as we continue our studies. Thirdly we learned that God is like a school teacher or our parents that start out teaching us in a very simple way and as we grow the lessons will get harder and harder to make us exercise our memories and help us to learn. This often will involve what I have called “Time Blocks” of information and also “Cloaked” information....much like what we read of Messiah Yeshua in the Brit Chadasha when he speaks in parables.

The First Ten Generations

The Sons Of Noah

Genesis 11 The Second Of The Ten Generations These are the generations of Shem: Shem was an hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood: 11 And Shem lived after he begat Arphaxad five hundred years, and begat sons and daughters. (Gen 11:10-11). In our first study we should have noted that the first ten generations of men are said to be the generations of Adam whereas we see here that the second ten generations are said to be that of Shem. This then denotes a direct connection betweeen Adam and Shem...we might say between The First Adam and Shem. This is what Luke chapter 3 shows as it links Yeshua who is the Last Adam with Shem's father who was the First Adam. In the above scripture in Genesis 11:10-11 we learn that Shem has a son named Arphaxad who is born 2 years after the Flood. Here is what we are told about the time of the Flood: And Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of waters was upon the earth. (Gen 7:6). We have learned that Noah was born in the year 1056 A.C. Therefore his 600 th year would be the year 1656 A.C. So 2 years after the Flood would have been the year 1658 A.C. And this is the birth year of Shem's son Arphaxad. We are also told that at the time of his sons birth that Shem is 100 years old therefore we can count backwards from 1658 exactly 100 years to the year 1558 A.C. And understand that this is the year of Shem's birth. Shem lived 500 years after his son was born therefore Shem lived a total of six hundred years. Please note for future reference that Shem and his son Arphaxad were both born in a year that ended in the number 8. Think patterns!

Generations Of Shem Son Of Noah …..Shem Born 1558 A.C....Son Arphaxad Born 1658 A.C....Shem lived another 500 Years...Shem Died in the year 2158 A.C.

Arphaxad Son Of Shem And Arphaxad lived five and thirty years, and begat Salah: 13 And Arphaxad lived after he begat Salah four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters. (Gen 11:12-13). Arphaxad lived 35 year and had a son whom he named Salah so we learn that Salah was born in the year 1693 A.C. ( years = 1693 A.C.). This was the 37 th year after the Flood. (1693 – 1656 = 37). We are also told that Shem's son Arphaxad lived 403 years and had sons and daughters after his son Salah was born. We take the 403 years and add it to the 35 years lived before his sons birth and learn that Arphaxad lived a total of 438 Years. Arphaxad was born in the year 1658 A.C. And died in the year 2096 A.C. ( = 2096 A.C.).

Arphaxad of Arpachshad...Arphaxad born 1658 A.C....Salah Born 1693 A.C....Arphaxad lived a total of 438 Years. ….Arphaxad Died in the year 2096 A.C.

Salah or Shelah And Salah lived thirty years, and begat Eber: 15 And Salah lived after he begat Eber four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters. (Gen 11:14-15). Here we learn that Salah who was born in 1693 A.C. Lived 30 years and had a son who he named Eber. This means that Eber was born in the year 1723 A.C. ( = 1723). Salah lived another 403 years and died in the year 2126 A.C.

Salah Son Of Arpachshad...Salah Born 1693 A.C....Eber Born 1723 A.c.... Lived another 403 Years...Salah Died in the year 2126 A.C.

Eber The Father Of Peleg 16 And Eber lived four and thirty years, and begat Peleg. 17 And Eber lived after he begat Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters. (Gen 11:16-17). Eber lived 34 years and in the year 1757 A.C.( = 1757 A.C. ) Has a son named Peleg. Eber lived another 430 years after Peleg was born and then died in the year 2187 A.C.

Life Of Eber...Eber Born in the year 1723 A.C....Peleg Born 30 Yrs. Later in 1757 A.C....Eber Died 2187 A.C.

Peleg The Son Of Eber 18 And Peleg lived thirty years, and begat Reu: 19 And Peleg lived after he begat Reu two hundred and nine years, and begat sons and daughters. (Gen 11:18-19). Peleg born in the year 1757 A.C. Has a son when he is 30 that is the year 1787 A.C. The name of his son is Reu. Peleg lives 209 years after Reu was born and Peleg died at the age of 239 in the year 1996 A.C. ( = 1996 A.C.).

Life Of Peleg...Peleg Born in the year 1757 A.C....Son Reu Born 30 years later....Peleg lived 239 years....Peleg Died in the year 1996 A.C.

Reu The Son Of Peleg And Reu lived two and thirty years, and begat Serug: 21 And Reu lived after he begat Serug two hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters. (Gen 11:20-21). Reu is born in the year 1787 A.C. And lives 32 years and has a son named Serug in the year 1819 A.C. Serug also lived to be 239 years old and he died in the year 2026 A.C. ( = 2026 A.C.).

Life Of Reu...Reu Born 1787 A.C when son Serug born....Reu lived a total of 239 years....Reu Died in the year 2026 A.C.

Serug The Son Of Reu 22 And Serug lived thirty years, and begat Nahor: 23 And Serug lived after he begat Nahor two hundred years, and begat sons and daughters. (Gen 11:22-23). Serug was born in the year 1819 A.C. And when he was 30 years old he had a son that he named Nahor. After Nahor was born Serug lived 200 more year for a total of 230 years. Serug died in the year 2049 A.C. ( = 2049 A.C.).

Life Of Serug...Serug Born in 1819 A.C....Son Nahor when he is 30 years old....Serug lived a total of 230 years....Serug Died in the year 2049 A.C.

Nahor Son Of Serug 24 And Nahor lived nine and twenty years, and begat Terah: 1 25 And Nahor lived after he begat Terah an hundred and nineteen years, and begat sons and daughters. (Gen 11:24-25). Nahor was born in the year 1849 A.C. When his father Serug was 30 years old. When Nahor was 29 years old he had a son who he named Terah and the year was 1878 A.C. Nahor lived 119 years after Terah was born for a total of 148 years and died in the year 1997 A.C. Which was some 21 years before Abram at 70 years of age leaves Ur of the Chaldees. ( Abram born 1948 A.C yrs. = 2018 A.C A.C. = 21). The reason I have given the above information about Abram now is that I want you to start thinking how you can use these numbers and counting backwards and forwards to find other pieces of information and dates. Also pay close attention...this Nahor is the father of Terah but Terah also has a son that he names Nahor who is Abram's brother. We want to be very careful that we do not confuse one person with another in scripture because they have the same name.

Life Of Nahor...Nahor Born 1849 A.C....Son Terah born when Nahor was 29 years old....Nahor lived another 119 years for a total of 148 years....Nahor Died in the year 1997 A.C.

Terah The Son Of Nahor 26 And Terah lived seventy years, and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran. 27 Now these are the generations of Terah: Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begat Lot. 28 And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees. (Gen 11:26-28). Terah is born in the year 1878 A.C. And when he is 70 years old he has a son named Abram....another named Nahor and still another named Haran who died while the family was still in Ur of the Chaldees. Also notice a pattern here where we see Terah having three sons as we saw with Noah, but in Noah's case the lineage was not denoted as this one is..... for Abram is noted as the first son in order of birth when Shem was mentioned first but was not the first in birth order. This then gives us addition information as it links both Shem and Abram ( both listed first in order of the written words ) as part of the lineage that God had chosen after the Flood that then would be linked to the First and Last Adams or we could say the lineage of Messiah.

Life Of Terah...Terah Born 1878 A.C....Son Abram born 70 years later. ….Terah lived a total of 205 years. ….Terah Died in the year 2083 A.C.

Before We Get To Abram I want us to see yet another reason for the study of chronology. With chronology we can see much more and understand much more than without it. Example: Written in the New Testament (Brit Chadasha) is this passage.....”Then came he out of the land of the Chaldaeans, and dwelt in Charran: and from thence, when his father was dead, he removed him into this land, wherein ye now dwell. (Act 7:4). The question then arises....did Terah die before Abraham left Harah (Charran)? The answer is NO! How can we prove it? Well we know Abram was born in the year 1948 A.C. And that he left Haran when he was 75 years old Genesis 12:4 ( = 2023 A.C.). We also have learned that Terah was born in the year 1878 A.C. And that he lived to be 205 years old and died in the year 2083 A.C. Some 60 years after Abraham left Haran. (2083 – 2023 = 60 yrs.). So we have to ask the question here: Is there an error in scripture? The answer is No! So if we believe there is no error then we have to ask another question and that is why did Stephen make this statement then? Since God knows the heart of man...then He also knows if a man will repent before he dies or not. One who does not repent is dead unless he returns and repents. We see this in several places but one of them was the story of the son who wanted his inheritance so he could go and live and spend it as he pleased, and he did so unwisely until he decided to repent and return to his father....at which point his father makes this statement......” For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry. (Luk 15:24). Though his son was still alive his father had considered him dead until he repented and returned at which point he became …..” alive again;”. Now there is a story concerning Terah that states he was an idol maker by trade and that Abram had tried to show him the truth and error of his ways but that Terah continued to make idols and as such was considered dead though he lived. We go to the next page to learn more......

Cont. Story Of Terah According to rabbinical tradition Terah was a wicked (Numbers Rabbah 19:1; 19:33), idolatrous priest (Midrash HaGadol on Genesis 11:28) who manufactured idols (Eliyahu Rabbah 6, and Eliyahu Zuta 25). Abram, in opposition to his father’s idol shop, smashed his father’s idols and chased customers away. Terah then brought his unruly son before Nimrod, who threw him into a fiery furnace, yet Abram miraculously escaped.(Genesis Rabba 38:13). Terah is identified as the person who arranged and led the family to embark on a mysterious journey to Canaan. It is shrouded in mystery to Jewish scholars as to why Terah began the journey and as to why the journey ended prematurely. It is suggested that he was a man in search of a greater truth that could possibly be found in the familiar land of Canaan, and that it was Abram who picked up the torch to continue his father's quest, that Terah himself was unable to achieve. In Jewish tradition Abram left Haran before Terah died as an expression that he would not be remiss in the Mitzvah, of honoring a parent, by leaving his aging father behind. The significance of Terah not reaching Canaan, was a reflection of his character, a man who was unable to go “all the way”. Though on a journey in the right direction, Terah fell short at arriving to the divine destination — in contrast to Abram, who did follow through and achieved the divine goal, and was not bound by his father’s idolatrous past. Abram's following God’s command to leave his father, thus absolved him from the Mitzvah of honoring parents, and as Abraham, he would go on to create a new lineage distinct from his ancestors. There exist information that seems to convey that Terah repented however most of what is written seems to imply that he didn't.....since it is up to The HOLY ONE to judge we leave this question here, but what we have seen is that Terah did not die before Abram left Haran and that Terah was still alive at that time....at least from a physical standpoint.

Life Of Abram 29 And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah. 30 But Sarai was barren; she had no child. 31 And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son's son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there. 32 And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran. (Gen 11:29-32). Abram was born in the year 1948 A.D. And he left his father in Haran when Abram was 75 years old and his father Terah was 145 years old ( Terah was 70 yrs. old at time of Abram's birth and then Abram lived 75 years adding together = 145 yrs. the age of Terah at the time Abram left Haran). Since Terah lived to be 205 years old we subtract the 145 years from 205 and learn that Terah lived 60 more years after Abraham left Haran. We have now come forward in time from the Creation of Adam to the year 1948 A.C. When Abram whose name was changed to Abraham was born. Here is one of those patterns that will affect the way we look at scripture and chronology. Abraham who was born in 1948 A.C. is the Father of the children of Israel. With this information in mind it is then important to note that the nation of Israel had its Re-Birth in the year 1948 A.D. To some this may at first seem to be a coincidence but in time one learns there are no coincidences within scripture. Let us also remember that Shem was born in the year 1558 A.C. And his son Arphaxad was born in the year 1658 A.C.
