Summer Holiday Work Year 10 GCSE Students Due in on the First Lesson Back after the holidays In your sketchbooks, present a page on Colour Theory and a page on Fauvism Art Work. Use the slides we have used in lessons to discuss how artists use the colour wheel and how it effects a paintings mood or interest. If you struggle for information on this, you could always use the internet, there is plenty of interesting stuff on colour there for you to use. You should present your pages creatively but neat and tidy like the Van Gogh pages we have done in class together.

COLOUR Investigating Colour and how artists use colour in their paintings

These three colours are called primary colours.

Piet Mondrian and Primary Colours Can you see the primary colours in these paintings by Piet Mondrian? What shapes did Mondrian use in this painting?

What happens if we mix… red yellow blue red

The colour wheel The colour wheel is… Primary colours Secondary colours Tertiary colours Made up of 12 hues Complimentary colours Harmonious Colours

Complementary colours Complementary colours are the colours that are directly across from each other on the colour wheel Blue & Orange Red & Green Purple & Yellow Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose by John Singer Sargent

Harmonious colours These colours are located next to each other on the wheel, such as: Blue, Blue-green, Green Red, Red-Orange, and Orange Harmonious colours share one colour Sunflowers By Vincent Van Gogh

Monochromatic colours A monochromatic scheme consists of different tints and shades of a single colour. An example of a monochrome colour scheme could include any colour mixed with white or black. The example above is a green monochromatic colour scheme. A shade of green is made by mixing green and black. A tint of green is made by mixing green and white. colour MIXING You can see the effect of adding light and dark on this colour wheel.

Create a double page in your sketchbooks investigating Colour Theory Include exploration of: 1.Creating shades on a monochromatic scale 2.Complimentary colours 3.Warm and cool colours 4.Tertiary colours 5.Harmonious Colours

How has this artist used colour to draw our attentio n to it?

Copy a section of a fauvist painting using your skills of colour mixing and colour theory
