Road Map Basics of sampling Progressive Scanning Interlaced Scanning

Basics

Scanning

Cont. Vertical resolution : Number of scan line per frame. Aspect Ratio : Ration of width to height. Frame/Field rate : 50 times per sec.

Sampling In signal processing, sampling is the reduction of a continuous signal to a discrete signal. In video processing, ideal sampler produces samples equivalent to the instantaneous value of the continuous signal/video at the desired points. In simple words, sampling means discretize the coordinate axis.

Spatio-Temporal Sampling Spatio-Temporal Sampling

Sampling Structure For Analog Video

Vertical-Temporal Scanning Orthogonal Sampling Structure Used for progressive scan Hexagonal Sampling Structure Used for 2:1 interlaced scan

Cont.

Sampling Structure For Digital Video Digital video can be obtained by sampling analog video in the horizontal direction along the scan lines.
