Questions from the Celebration How to get to trust—how to define it? Should next phase of our work be directed by 4 quadrants? How do 4 quadrant questions change over time? How does one observe “enhanced meaning”? How to do this task with those who have difficulty multi-tasking? How did you get staff buy-in? How to get new staff on board? What next? How do we sustain this…? AEIN collaboration, network, site efforts

Oct 09 Academy questions: Day 1 QUESTIONS: –Is question too long vs short? Is it good? –What is balance between asking questions/ probing and serving as a resource? –Does our inquiry question need to be proven? INTENDED RESULTS vs EVIDENCE: –How to get data? –What is role of student learning for both? –How do you know if intended result is manageable? IMPLEMENTATION: –Do we want to collaborate with another site? –What is next step? –How do we get buy-in back home? –Will it work? What are risks?

What is my role? from Diversity & Motivation: Culturally Responsive Teaching, (Wlodkowski & Ginsberg, 1995) Engendering Competence : Creating understanding and developing effectiveness; building on prior knowledge. Enhancing Meaning: Conversations and work connect individual values to create shared, substantive understandings. Establishing Inclusion: Being sure to hear all voices. The views of members of the learning community are respected and connected to the improvement work. Developing Attitude: Ensuring opportunities for choice and connection to who people are, what they care about, and what they know.

Theory of Change The chain of events/activities that will lead to the intended result. It is based on your assumptions/understandings of how to make the change you seek. The logic model expands explicates the theory of change by detailing the critical components of the process.

The Logic Model, revised Benchmark 1 A. Activities & needs: who what when where how? B. What will people learn about/learn to do? (intended results) C. Evaluation/evidence: How will you know they have learned this? D. What is the plan for helping people use what they have learned?. E. What will people do that is different? (intended results). F. Evaluation/evidence: How will you know they are doing it? What do your data say? (what were the results of this step?) What are the implications for next steps?

Manageable Inquiry Do we have the knowledge? –What support do we need? –How can the network help? Do we have the human resources? –Are there enough of us engaged? Do we have the time? –Can we structure our time to address this? –Do we have an adequate duration to realize our goals? –Is this a reasonable focus, considering our other demands? Do we have the money & capital resources? –What are our budgetary needs? Do we have the infrastructure covered? Is the activity/question within our control? –Are we working to change ourselves or others? –How will we engage others, if necessary?
