This is a question that many people still want answers to. There were certain suspicions and the first investigation was conducted in 1948.

History continued  Anne and her family hid in the annex of a warehouse in central Amsterdam for 25 months.  They went into hiding July 6 th, 1942 after Margot received a call up notice.

Suspect One: Willem van Maaren He was investigated shortly after the war.  Van Maaren, who was suspected of committing the warehouse thefts, was never convicted.

Suspect One continued  The investigation was reopened in 1963, but still nothing was proved  Willem van Marren dies in 1971 professing his innocence.

Suspect Two: Tony Ahlers  He turned in The Franks to the Nazis.  He may have blackmailed Mr. Frank for years after the war.  He received payments from Mr. Frank after the war.  His son said the income stopped coming in 1980,the year that Mr. Frank died.

Suspect Three: Lena van Bladeren- Hartog  Was the wife of Van Maaren's assistant, Lammert Hartog, and was employed in the Opekta offices as a cleaner in  Lena said that she knew there were Jews hiding 263 Prinsengracht since 1942, when they were cleaners in the building and noticed the large quantities of milk and bread being delivered.  She was investigated later and proven innocent.
