 More than 4,000 Americans die from workplace injuries every year.  Perhaps as many as 50,000 workers die from illnesses in which workplace exposures were a contributing factor.  More than 3 million workers suffer a serious non fatal injury or illness annually.

7 Among insured employers in NCCI states in :  Falls from Elevations by roofers cost approximately $54 million per year. Average lost time claims cost approximately $106,000 each  Falls from Elevations by Carpenters cost approximately $93 million per year. Average lost time claims cost over $97,000 each  The average cost of a fall from elevation for all other occupational classifications was under $50,000

The rule expands the list of severe work-related injuries and illnesses that all covered employers must report to OSHA. As of January 1, 2015 employers must report the following to OSHA:  All work-related fatalities within 8 hours (same as the former requirement)  All work-related in-patient hospitalizations of one or more employees within 24 hours  All work-related amputations within 24 hours  All work-related losses of an eye within 24 hours

 Locally- Philadelphia Area Office has received approximately 50 reports under the new requirements  Approximately 50% resulted in inspections  The other half were handled as Rapid Requests for Investigations (RRIs)
