Presentation transcript:

Group Project Graded on both individual effort/participation and group effort/participation. Formal presentation to panel of practicing engineers at Class #15. Paper version (report) due also Class #14. Some time given in class each week to work on this. Reflective AND analytical in nature.

Group Project You are doing what is called a preliminary design. Your cost estimates are preliminary. You should cover the following: – Problem description – 3 top solutions – Cost/benefit analysis of each solution – Recommended solution

Group Project Final product is a presentation (7-10 minutes in length) to a panel of practicing engineers. May be on computer or on display board. You must also provide a written report with appendices. You will then answer questions from the panel and from your classmates. (7-10 minutes) Your final grade will be determined by Mr. Qureshi who will take into account the comments from the panel and from your classmates.

Group Project Dome to Mars. Brainstorm on solutions. Especially consider solutions that are inexpensive and utilize things that already exist.

Group Project Your group picked one of the challenges (problems) and brainstormed solutions. You picked 3 solutions to investigate. Criteria for a successful solution include: simple, low-cost, utilize existing materials or methods, legal (lawful), “sailor-proof” Flesh out your 3 solutions and perform a cost/benefit analysis of each solution

Group Project (con’t) Keep a record of what your group is doing and what you are are doing. These are your “work papers”. You will turn in your work papers the day of the presentation. Prepare a presentation to convince Upper Management (the panel and your fellow classmates) that your chosen solution is the best one.
