All unused samples must be dumped into the Slop Tank on west side of Octane room. Special Instructions  This procedure is used to determine the Water Characteristic of Aviation Turbine Fuels by Portable Separometer.  Any problems, notify Shift Supervisor or Duane Chaisson. Scope / Objective Note: This procedure is only valid at the time of printing. The control version can be found on the Meraux Refinery intranet. Completed Date:Prepared By:Approved By: Test Procedure NOTE: Sample should be 65 – 85°F. Allow sample to cool within temperature limits if necessary prior to beginning test. 1Depress Operating Mode A switch. 2Remove the plunger from the syringe barrel. 3Insert a plug into the bottom of the syringe. 4Add 50 ml of the test fuel to the syringe. 5Place the syringe on the emulsifier. 6Twist the syringe to lock in place. 7Add 15 – 20 ml of the test fuel to a clean vial (1/2 full). 8Insert the vial in the turbidimeter well. 9Align the black mark on the vial with the white mark on the front panel. 10Depress the Start switch to initiate the Cleaning cycle. This will also initiate the Automatic Program. 11When the mixer stops, remove the syringe from the emulsifier. 12Discard the fuel and drain the syringe thoroughly. EquipmentMaterials and Reagents

The meter adjustment period lasts 10 seconds. If the adjustment cannot be completed at this time, a final adjustment can be made during the second meter adjustment period. When the mixer stops, you have 30 seconds to prepare for coalescence. 25When the mixer stops, remove the syringe from the emulsifier. 26Partially insert the plunger in the syringe. With or without the help of the wire aid. 27Turn the syringe upside down. 28Remove the plug from the bottom of the syringe. 29Push the plunger up to the 50 ml mark. 30Attach an Alumicel coalescer cell to the bottom of the syringe. 31Place the syringe in the syringe drive. 32Place a drip pan under the syringe to collect the unwanted portion of the fuel. 33You will hear 4 short tones. If necessary, adjust the meter to read 100 by using the UP (↑) or DOWN (↓) ARROW switch. 34Remove the vial from the turbidimeter well. Water Separation Characteristics by Micro-Separometer Continued

Tilt the vial at a slight angle and allow the fuel to flow down the inner surface of the vial. 37Place the vial in the turbidimeter well. 38Align the black mark on the vial with the white mark on the front panel. 39The setting time is 56 seconds. You will hear a steady tone for 4 seconds to let you know that the meter is about to activate. 40The meter will activate for 10 seconds. 41Record meter reading.
