#InHouseCounsel (aka, what’s trending in in-house practice) Susan Hackett Legal Executive Leadership, LLC

Today’s discussion will cover: Law Practice Management Trends The Black Box of Legal Ops! New technology + Data practices In-house Career/Professional Development Insource / Outsource: Staffing the Work … and whatever you want to talk about!

Format = Short Presentation + Group Discussion, Topic by Topic

Law Practice Management Trends  The impact of new markets, new economies, new competition in a previously closed profession  The changing relationship between corporate clients and their lawyers  A new focus: on the “how,” rather than the “what” … and on results, rather than activity.

The Black Box of Legal Ops  Emerging segment of in-house leaders  What are their skill sets / responsibilities / challenges  How do they impact in-house practice, as well as law firms practices

Technology and Data  What is sustaining and what is disruptive tech?  What are most departments doing/thinking about?  Concerns about lawyer adaptability/adoption: behavior change  How do tech and date connect/interact?

In-house Career and Professional Development  The changing skill set for lawyers, and especially for in-house counsel: what drives future success?  The changing workplace: communications technology, virtual practice, collaborative teaming  What are you being paid to do? How will you be “valued” in the future?  Where are the “next” jobs?

Insource and Outsource  What is the future role of the law department and its in-house staff?  What is the continuing relevance of lawyers in business?  When should you insource work and when should you outsource it? If outsourcing, to whom will you send the work and under what terms?

Thank you for including me in your discussions! Susan Hackett Legal Executive Leadership, LLC
