What does a Biochemist do?  Most biochemists study chemical processes and transformations that occur living organisms.  Other biochemists studies DNA, proteins, and cell parts.  They research how certain chemical reactions happen in cells and tissues.  They observe and record the effects of products as in food additives and medicines.

Requirements to become a Biochemist  Make sure this career is a good fit for you.  An aptitude for mathematics and interest in the biological or chemical sciences is essential  A PhD in biochemistry or chemistry is necessary to lead or participate in serious research projects  The most important factor in biochemistry focuses on laboratory skills, safety procedures, and the proper use of equipment.

Will there be jobs in the present and future?  The BLS estimated jobs in this field would increase by 31% between 2010 and 2020  Growth will come from increased demand for medical research and development

Universities or Colleges that offer programs for Biochemists.  1-University of California— Berkeley Berkeley, CA  2-Scripps Research Institute La Jolla, CA  3-University of Wisconsin— Madison Madison, WI  4-Harvard University Cambridge, MA  5-University of California— San Francisco San Francisco, CA

Biochemists salary The BLS reported average annual wages for this field were $89,470 as of May 2012.

Famous Biochemists Sir Walter Norman Haworth  He developed a new method of methylation of sugars, a technique that is useful in determining many chemical properties of sugar molecules.  He succeeded in artificially synthesizing ascorbic acid (Vitamin C)

Information about job postings  Most biochemists work for government agencies, corporations or university research departments.  Many Universities or big corporations post job listings online  Chemjobs.net/ helps many science & technology graduates find jobs worldwide Chemjobs.net/

Questions  Is this field fir for me?  Do I have the skills and requirements for this profession?  Do I see my self being successful?  Will I be hired?
