With your group, brainstorm a list the facts that you have identified about Tier 1 Reading/Math curriculum from the winter Universal Screening data.

Discuss your ideas and create a hypothesis statement stating what you feel might be the problem.

EQ: How must the design of the traditional brick-and-mortar school, the delivery of content as well as the role of the teacher and student change in order to ensure all students are on track for college and career readiness?

Go to activateinstruction.org Click on search tab in upper right corner Go to search for section and click teacher Choose state, district and all schools Click on Mrs. Turner site Under Playlist locate and click on RtI Tier 1

EQ: How must the design of the traditional brick-and-mortar school, the delivery of content as well as the role of the teacher and student change in order to ensure all students are on track for college and career readiness? Each member in the group will research from a collection of resources provided to test the group hypothesis and a answer the EQ. 1- Innovative School Design 2. Delivery of Instruction 3. Role of the Teacher 4. Role of the Student

EQ: How must the design of the traditional brick-and-mortar school, the delivery of content as well as the role of the teacher and student change in order to ensure all students are on track for college and career readiness? Each member will have 5 minutes to share the knowledge he/she gained in regards to the EQ and group hypothesis. Check hypothesis and make corrections/additions as needed Create a statement using what you learned from the research to answer the EQ.

Innovative Schools “those who control schools and the way schools operate must be prepared to design schools and school districts in ways that are supportive of this activity.” “Rather than viewing schools as teaching platforms, schools must be viewed as learning platforms. Rather than seeing schools as knowledge distribution systems, schools must be seen as knowledge work systems.”

Delivery of Content “Rather than viewing schools as teaching platforms, schools must be viewed as learning platforms. Rather than seeing schools as knowledge distribution systems, schools must be seen as knowledge work systems.” “

Role of the Teacher “Instead of thinking of teachers as performers, I prefer to think of them as designers of experiences for students.” “the essential skills that teachers need are those associated with designing work for students that students find engaging.” “skills include those that are essential to ensuring that the work is designed in a way that results in students’ learning what it is intended that they learn.”

Role of the Student “One way to help reconceive this relationship is to think of the student as a customer for work and the teacher as the designer of that work.”
