Jeff Brummond Iteris June 21, 2006 Weather-Related VII Use Cases

Timeline  January 28 - February 9 – Developed Draft Use Cases  February 10 – Meeting at BAH facility in Arlington  February – Revise use cases  February 22 & 23 - Workshop in Boulder, Colorado at NCAR  February 27 – Revise Draft Use Cases based on Boulder Workshop  March 9 - Weather VII Use Case Kick-off Telecon  March 24 – Clarus Task Force Comments Due  March 27 – Meeting at US DOT to disposition Clarus Task Force Comments  March 28 - Weather VII Use Case Wrap-Up Telecon  March – Revise use cases  March 31 – Received more AASHTO comments  April 5 – Sent out revised weather-related use cases

Comment Summary  Traveler Notification with Clarus: 17 commenters, ~200 comments  Traveler Notification without Clarus: 15 commenters, ~100 comments  Improved Weather Observing and Forecasting: 17 commenters, ~150 comments  Winter Maintenance: 16 commenters, ~100 comments  Pothole Maintenance: 13 commenters, ~80 comments  Many of the comments to one use case also applied to the others  The number of comments is indicative of the complexity of creating a concept of operations between 2 US DOT research initiatives, Clarus and VII

Primary Changes  Extended NOAA actor to include the Weather Enterprise  Expanded Weather Data Translator (WDT) Concept

Draft Highly Conceptual WDT

Current Status  Merged/Aligned all Use Cases into one Model  Slight renaming of actors and use cases  Drill-down within each use case – layered model  Allocate actors and use cases to services  Developing VII Network Services  Creating VII Concept of Operations  Creating VII System Requirements Specification  VII System Security Plan out for review
