 Rock as most people know it started off as Rock’n’Roll in the1950’s  Before that, influences came from music including jazz, blues, rhythm & blues (R&B), country and western.  In an attempt to rejuvenate the music industry in a much more modern and upbeat way, white country artists took inspiration from black rhythm and blues artists.  Many black artists then made use of white artist’s hardware, which in turn lead to music such as Motown and Soul.  Thought to have originated from Central and Southern USA  The overall genre of Rock, in effect, is from African origin.

 Rock music differs in popularity among different regions of countries.  Generalised, rock is one of the top 3 favourite genres, alongside Hip-Hop and Rap  Originally, rock was the dominant genre for many years, but as different, urban-based groups started to increase in popularity from the introduction of the internet, people now listen to a variety of music genres, and not just rock  Rock has become merged with other genres to create popular music which satisfies the multi-genre audiences

 The future of rock music lies with its audience and sub- divisions of its own sub-genres  Conventional rock music listeners appear to be getting older, so eventually traditional music such as folk may die out  Rock music will have sub-genres which nowadays will be put into other genres such as hip-hop, as the meaning definition of rock music becomes more vague  Rock music will ultimately dissipate into other genres, and will trigger the starting point of a new genre of music altogether, much like how the blues and jazz music started off rock music
