CONTENTS PLOT VOCABULARY MY THOUGHTS YELLOW RIBBON PROJECT DISCUSSION REFERENCE

PLOT On a quiet September night their 17-year-old son, Mike, got into his cherished yellow '68 Mustang, his heart broken after the sudden ending of his first romance. His girl-friend had told him she was going to get engaged to someone else. Sitting in the car he had so lovingly restored and treasured, Mike shot and killed himself. One of Mike's friend was shot in a drive-by shooting but recovered, with Mike's support. When his high school band went to Florida to march in the Orange Bowl parade, Mike assisted a fellow band member who was blind. A young mother and her children were stranded on the roadside when Mike came by. He stopped, showed her his driver's license to assure her he wouldn't hurt her and her children, and got her car started. He followed them home to make sure they arrived safely. In the days following Mike's death, many teenagers came to comfort them(Mike's parents) and asked if they could do anything to help. Mike's parents's response to their question was: "Don't ever do this. Don't commit suicide. Reach out to someone and ask for help!" Mike's parents decided to establish a foundation dedicated to eliminating suicide, a leading cause of death among teens.

My Thoughts I think Mike made wrong decision for himself and others whom love him. Because of broking of his romance, he shoot himself in the his car. If I was him, I would make other decision. Because, suicide makes other people hurt. There are other way to recover romance, certainly. Anyway, his parent overcome that grief. They made so great project to prevent others suicide called Yellow ‘Ribbon Project’. This project prevent many people’s difficulties, successfully. It helped people in difficult situation to overcome something wrong. I honored Mike’s parents. They save many lifes.

Yellow Ribbon Project The Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention Program® (YRSPP) began in September of 1994 after the suicide of 17-year-old Mike Emme. In the days following Mike's death, dozens of teenagers approached Mike's family, asking what they could do. Mike's parents responded by saying, "Don't ever do this. Don't commit suicide. Reach out to someone and ask for help." Kids took notes. "It's okay to ask for help," they wrote, and it become the common theme. Thus, the Yellow Ribbon Card was born.Mike Emme

DISCUSSION 1.How do you think that Mike did? 2.Maybe, If you were Mike, what did you do in that situation? 3.How could we prevent suicide in the our society as student?
