The Elephant in the Room

Tough Questions – What if he/she is seriously injured? – What if my partner is unfaithful while we are apart? – What if he/she struggles with post-traumatic stress upon return? – What if I am overwhelmed with life and the kids, and there is no one to help? – What if we can not communicate much or stay in touch? – What if, upon return, he/she is depressed or suicidal? – What if he/she dies?

Our Elephant You can use the following communication structure to discuss the most significant issue you feel you face in your National Guard marriage. 1.“For me, the elephant in our marriage is __________.” 2.“When I think about this elephant, I feel _____________.” 3.[The listener should be able to repeat back/restate what the speaker just said.]
